It’s the time of year for saving money!
In a couple of days I’ll be attending the 2013 Mountain Audio Fest in Denver, Colorado. This year’s event will be different from other years for several reasons. First it will be the largest RMAF in recent memory, with some exhibits at the Hyatt, which is a couple of minutes (by foot) away from the main hotel. The companion show, CANJAM, which is dedicated to portable and personal audio will also be bigger than ever. From the press releases coming in, this year’s fest will see the premiere of a cornucopia of new products. The Sound Organization, who distribute Naim, Dali,and PMC in the United States, have twelve unveilings scheduled.
As usual RMAF will have a full schedule of seminars and live concerts, but this year’s show will also offer a silent auction, with all proceeds going to Colorado Flood survivors. I’m planning on donating some cool stuff, including a copy of the now out-of-print vinyl box set of the Led Zeppelin BBC sessions.
When J. Gordon Holt passed away, a few of his components were donated to the Colorado Audio Society. Among them was a large JBL center channel speaker in its original box. This will also be one of the auction items.
B&W has donated a pair of P3 and a pair of C5 headphones as well as a Zeppelin Z2 speaker system. I’m hoping that quite a few other manufacturers will also step up with donations for the auction. There’s still time to contact RMAF to donate components.
Obviously, this auction idea was a recent addition, since the flood happened at the beginning of September. My blogs can supply some background as to the scope and severity of the event. Many of my neighbors whose homes were closer to a stream or waterway, ANY waterway, were impacted far more than I. And flood insurance, if they had any, has proven in most cases to be grossly inadequate.
I’m hoping that the Colorado Audio Society silent auction at RMAF will demonstrate that we audiophiles are as generous as we are well-eared.
